What to send your broker: Full PGA vs Reference PGA

Some brokers ask for all product and test details. Others ask for three Product Registry ID numbers. This guide explains what to send in each case.

Audience: Importers, ecommerce sellers, and operators whose broker asked for CPSC eFiling details.

Option 1: send all certificate details

Your broker may call this Full PGA. It means the broker wants the product, rule, manufacturing, testing, lab, and records-contact details before entry.

Gather Product ID, CPSC rule codes, manufacture date and place, product test date, testing lab, and records contact.
Ask your broker whether they need a specific spreadsheet format or lead time before entry.
Use this option when your broker is not relying only on Product Registry ID numbers.

Option 2: send Product Registry ID numbers

Your broker may call this Reference PGA. It means you enter the certificate details in CPSC Product Registry first, then give your broker the ID numbers for that product record.

Give the broker the Certifier ID, Product ID, and Version ID from Product Registry.
Track the Product Collection, product ID type, Version ID, and whether that version is draft, active, replaced, or archived.
Remember that Product Registry does not automatically send these ID numbers to your broker.
Product Registry availability and participation limits may change; confirm current access directly with CPSC.

How CPSCReady fits

CPSCReady helps you organize the information before your broker files anything. It does not file customs entries or decide your legal requirements.

Prepare both broker-ready options from the same product record.
Create request templates for suppliers, labs, and brokers.
Flag missing fields before you pay for exports.

Subject: Confirm CPSC data needed for [Product ID]

Hi [Broker Name],

For this shipment, what do you need from us before entry?

1. All certificate details for the product, such as product ID, CPSC rules, manufacture date/place, test date, lab, and records contact?
2. Product Registry ID numbers only, meaning Certifier ID, Product ID, and Version ID?
3. Both?

If you need all certificate details, please send your spreadsheet columns and deadline. If you need Product Registry ID numbers, please confirm whether you need any product collection or version-status notes.

Thanks,
[Importer Name]

Internal prep note

Decision needed: what does the broker want?

If the broker wants all certificate details, prepare Product ID, CPSC rule codes, manufacture date, manufacture place, product test date, testing lab, and records contact.

If the broker wants Product Registry ID numbers, prepare Certifier ID, Product ID, Version ID, Product Collection, product ID type, and version status.

Mini FAQ

Common questions

Can we prepare both options?

Yes. Preparing both is useful when Product Registry setup is still in progress or the broker has not yet confirmed which option they will use.

Does Product Registry send ID numbers to my broker automatically?

No. The importer still needs to give the relevant Certifier ID, Product ID, and Version ID to the broker or filing partner.

Can we assume Product Registry access will stay available?

No. Availability and participation limits may change. Confirm current Product Registry access directly with CPSC before relying on Product Registry ID numbers.
